Firefox Constantly Updating?

If you haven’t noticed over the past few months firefox has been updating quite frequently. It seems the updates have no affect on the user interface but on the back end. Does this mean with IE8 coming out that firefox is worried that they aren’t going to be the number one browser anymore? I doubt it, I just think it’s very annoying to always be updating.
